How is the fishing year defined?

The fishing year in the canton of Zug begins on November 1 and ends on October 31 of the following year. This period is decisive for the annual license.

At what age can I acquire the youth license?

Youth from the 8th to the 16th birthday can obtain the reduced cost youth license with the duration of one fishing year.

How do I record the catch statistics?

Record catch statistics with the app
With four clicks you start your fishing event and can enter caught and released fish in an overview. After fishing, you can check and confirm your entries and then end the event. Your personal statistics give you an overview of your catches.

An explanatory video and further information can be found at: https://www.fishven.com/en/digital-catch-statistics-app/

Submit catch statistics on paper
If you would like to record and submit paper catch statistics, please contact the Office of Forest and Game.

Do I need to have an internet connection if I want to use the app?

Only for the registration an internet connection must exist. The app or the recording of the catches also works without an internet connection. The data is temporarily stored on your smartphone until the event is saved. As soon as you have a working internet connection again, the data will be transmitted.

What should I do if my smartphone runs out of battery?

According to § 20 para. 2 of the Fisheries Act (BGS 933.21) you must be able to show the necessary identification upon request. If your smartphone has run out of battery or you cannot show your license or SANA ID for any other reason, you will not be allowed to continue fishing.

What data from the app is sent to the AFW?

The following data will be forwarded to the AFW:

  • Start and end time of the event
  • Name of the water body being fished
  • Fish species, size, time of catch
  • Bait used, weather conditions (if recorded)

When do I need to send my catch statistics on the app to the AFW?

The digital catch statistics on the Zug fishing app are continuously forwarded to the AFW and therefore do not have to be sent additionally.

When do I have to hand in my catch statistics on paper to the AFW

If you fill in your catch statistics by hand, the documents must be submitted by 30th November of the fishing year concerned to the AFW. If you fail to do so, you will be charged a reminder fee of 50 francs. The issuance of a new license will be refused until the fee is paid.

When can I select the capture type for catch statistics?

When purchasing the license, you must specify the form in which you will record your catch statistics. If you wish to change the recording method during the term of the license, contact the AFW.
